October 20–22, 2025 | University of Belgrade
The third annual international conference of WHISC – Women in the Holocaust International Study Center – will be held in collaboration with the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory at the University of Belgrade.
“Lives Worth Living” explores women’s experiences, memories, and representations during and after the Holocaust through the lenses of gender, violence, ethics, resistance, and art.
Scholars and researchers from Israel, Serbia, Poland, Germany, Sweden, France, and the United States will come together to discuss women’s voices in history, literature, medicine, and memory.
The conference will include keynote lectures, academic panels, cultural events, and a visit to the Memorial Center Staro Sajmište in Belgrade.
This gathering continues WHISC’s mission to deepen the study of women’s lives during the Holocaust and to highlight their strength, creativity, and moral courage in the face of persecution.
